What is your vision for Knoxville 10 years from now?

I hope to see a city that uses its resources to combat the issues that are impacting our most needy citizens. I’d love to see a model city where we take care of our own and provide for those who are in need.

What is Knoxville’s Best Kept Secret?

I think it’s our people. If we can find a way to minimize our greatest asset in our people, then we can make a huge impact and set the pace for other cities around the nation.

What would you do to strengthen Knoxville?

Mobilize our resources and make this the greatest place to live in America.

What is your favorite Knoxville memory?

My favorite memory is attending the 1982 World’s Fair with my family.

What is your favorite book or what book is currently on your nightstand?

Currently on my nightstand is It’s Not You, It’s Everything by one of my former students, Eric Minton

What is the best advice you have received from a mentor, and who was that mentor?

Be so consistent in your decision making that your employees know the answer before they ask.

What advice would you give to your 16 year old self?

Don’t rush through life, enjoy every stage and every experience.
